20 Tips for Perfect Interview Preparation: Part I (written by Career Expert, Pete Leibman)

Interviewing success is all about proper preparation!  This week, I will be sharing 20 tips on the perfect way to prepare for each interview.  Here are the first 5 tips:

  1. Research the interviewer(s).  Get the name(s) of the person(s) who will be interviewing you and look them up on LinkedIn.com, Facebook, Google, You-tube, and Twitter.  Get as much information as you can about each of these people.  You never know how it could help you in the interview.
  2. Research the company online.  Look up the company on each of these web sites as well, for the same reason.
  3. Read every page of the company’s web site and take notes.  Again, you want to know as much as possible about your potential employer.
  4. See if you have an “in” to the company (or their industry).  Whether you got the interview through a referral or through some other channel, look at your connections (LinkedIn.com can be especially helpful here), and see if you have any contacts who could give you insights into the company (or their industry).  You might be able to establish a common connection with the interviewer or get some “insider” information about the company’s industry.
  5. Conduct industry research through LinkedIn.com.  Join 5-10 relevant discussion groups on LinkedIn.com to see what people in the industry are talking about.  This will help you prepare more thoughtful questions to ask during the interview, and it will also ensure that you are updated on any recent industry news/trends.

Tips #6-10 will be posted tomorrow!
