Flabby Body? Flabby Career? Hmmm…

March 1, 2010

According to recent research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 70% of Americans are overweight or obese.  In other words, most Americans are flabby physically.

According to recent research from the Conference Board, over 50% of Americans are unsatisfied with their professional lives, in addition to the 10% of Americans who are currently unemployed.  In other words, most Americans are also flabby professionally.

On the contrary, despite being far from an expert on many other areas of “life success,” I have been physically fit and professionally “fit” for my entire life after college (

It got me thinking.  There must be some reasons why I have been successful physically AND professionally.  I must have developed certain habits and beliefs that propelled me to success in these 2 areas of my life, habits and beliefs which anyone else could also develop in order to achieve similar results.

That’s the overall theme for this blog: to discuss how the “secrets” to a stronger, healthier body are also the “secrets” to a stronger, healthier career.  Just as anyone can shed flab from their body and develop physical muscles, I also believe that anyone can shed flab from their career and develop professional muscles (i.e. Career Muscles).

While the commentary on this blog will be geared toward college students and young professionals (i.e. Generation Y), most of the concepts will be applicable to older Americans as well.

I encourage as much participation as possible on this blog and welcome all of your thoughts, whether you agree or disagree with anything I write.  Conversations and discussions are much more fun and effective than 1-way lectures!  Please contribute your feedback and contact me directly with ANY suggestions on how we can help America get fitter physically and professionally!

Thanks for reading!
